Second Phase Teaching Practice- Week 2 St Mary's pattom

                                              Day- 4 July 19,2023 

National Reading Day

June 19 was celebrated as National Reading Day at St. Mary's HSS, Pattom- TVM. Pictures of famous writers and quotes from books/poems were pasted on a makeshift tree by the students. A formal function was organised by the Malayalam Club by joining hands with Malayala Manorama. The value of reading books in an era dominated by the internet was encouraged. 

Later, we got cake as part of the 25th anniversary of the Higher Secondary section. The 25th anniversary function had been felicitated by Dr. Shashi Tharoor. 

I had class during the last hour and continued on with the chapter 'The Boy WHo Drew Cats'. It was difficult to teach due to the external commotion from the next class as it was the last period. 

                                           Day 5 20th June 2023

I taught the next portion of The Boy Who Drew Cats at Class VIII-U during the third period. It was not that difficult to manage the class as it was the morning session. All the students were on their study/learning mode. Majority of them were attentive and I was able to complete a larger portion of the chapter.

                                             Day 6 21st June 2023

Again another normal day, where new pressures and  deadlines were added on to the list. There was an urgent need to complete the portions as per the orders of the subject teacher. So I finished the chapter 'The Boy WHo Drew Cats by mainly focussing on explaining the lesson. 

                                              Day 7 22nd June 2023

First General Observation and First Optional Observation by Sajeeshma Teacher and Henna Teacher. The observation was a complete shocking surprise as it was least expected. I had class at VIII-U during the fifth period. It was difficult to manage the class, as the students were noisy. It took time, to finally settle and start the lesson. There were external distractions and somehow I managed to give the introduction to the poem 'Tajmahal' and explained the first four lines of the poem. But could not make it to the activity session due to lack of time. So the first observation of my teaching was not as expected. 

                                             Day 8 23rd June 2023

It was the last day of the week and we were just eager to get both Saturday and Sunday as we were hell tired. I had sixth period at Class VIII-U and the subject teacher conducted a test paper on the first chapter 'The Mysterious Picture'. 

Second Phase Teaching Practice Week 1 St Mary's HSS Pattom

Day 1 - June 14 2023 Wednesday 

The second phase teaching practice started on June 14 2023 Wednesday. We were a group of three student teachers from English optional. Arya Krishna, Shilpa Krishnan B and myself had come over to the school last week to meet our respective teachers in charge of the alloted classes so as to get our portions and time-table. 

I had class at VIII-U during the fifth hour. After introducing myself and creating a rapport creation, I started the lesson 'The Boy Who Drew Cats' by giving a brief introduction on folktales. 

The first day was definitly new- NEW surroundings, NEW faces and NEW rules. And it of course takes time to adjust to the new situation. The first day was hectic with running to and forth to settle down and it was difficul. By the end of the day we were tired and completly out. 

Day 2 - June 15 2023, Thursday

The second day was much better than the first. We had certain duties at school like discipline duty, vegatable cutting duty and noon meal duty. I had class during the fifth period and taught the next portion of the lesson. 

Day 3 - June 16 2023, Friday

Blessing Ceremony of the School by Most Rev. Cardinal Cleemis. Had substituition duty and later class during the sixth period at Class VII-U.

I made an e-content based video on the topic 'Personification'. I have tried to illustrate the meaning of personification by using simple and relatable examples. Then I have used examples of personification from the poem "Song of the Rain" by Khalil Gibran. I made a ppt video and then converted it into a video using inshot app. I added music and transition effects, It was a digitally enriching experience. 

Digital Text Book

 I did a digital text book 'The Magical World of Stories' for Class 9 students. It was based on the fairy tales. I selected  the story 'Hansel and Gretal' and the poem "Beauty and the Beast" written by the poet Charles Lamb. From the experience of the first taching practice, I found that the boys were interested in listening to stories. Hence, I thought of using stories which has not been forgotten as the content for my digital book.

January 31- Last Day at School

 January 31- my last day of first phase teaching practice. Last day at GHSS Kamaleshwaram which was not less than a home. I don't easily show my emotions, and was normal the whole day, But when I came back home and went through the entire journey, tears formed in my eyes. I had less expectations when I started off the first day but at the end it had become a place close to my heart after my home. 

Teaching Phase - 1 Kamaleshwaram Noon-meal duty

 Noon-meal duty was something which we truly looked forward every time. We really loved to serve food for the children during noon-time as we enjoyed doing it. 

World Arabic Day Celebration

UN Arabic Language Day is observed annually on December 18. The event was established by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2010 seeking "to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization". December 18 was chosen as the date for the Arabic language as it is "the day in 1973 when the General Assembly approved Arabic as an official UN language".

World Arabic Day was celebrated on December 13, 2022 at GHSS, Kamaleshwaram as December 18, the students had their christmas examinations. The assembly was conducted in Arabic language by the children who had taken second language as Arabic. Rashid Sir, gave a speech about the importance of Arabic language across the globe. 

 

Exam Duty Filing of Papers

December started off with exm tensions, duties and a rush to finish the balance portions and conducting revision classes. Though exam duties were at times boring and even hectic, it was totally entertaining. I was able to understand the feeling of a teacher getting to enjoy examinations with no fear and anxiety. It was a wholesome experience.

Manacaud School Youth Festival

Myself and Remya got duty on November 16 at Manacaud School as aprt of the school youth festival. We had to take some boys who were participating for events like light music, arabipaatu etc. We had lunch from the school and got to meet our classmates who were student teachers during the first phase teaching practice. It was really endearing to meet all of them. 

Children's day Celebration - November 14

 We had morning assembly in November 14 at GHSS Kamaleshwaram school. Children sang songs, and recited poems in honour of their beloved Chacha ji (Nehru). Later sweets were distributed to children of every classes. The children were in a jubilant mood and demanded free hours and P.T as it was children's day. 

Kerala Day & Say NO to Drug Campaign

 November 1 Kerala Day, we wore Kerala saree to school. Afternoon, we did not have classes. All of us went to East Fort in the school bus to attend the Say NO to Drug Campaign. It was a tiring as well as a unique experience to stand in the middle of the road amongst different pupils and teachers from various schools. 

The Kerala government on October 6 launched a "No To Drugs" awareness campaign with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan saying that the objective of the drive is to make the state free of destructive contrabands. Urging people from all walks of life to join the drive, the CM said not even a second can be wasted in the fight against the deadly substance as the terrible danger it causes in the society was beyond description.
